Po dolini Kamniške Bistrice se peljemo, ko gremo na Veliko planino, eno naših najlepših pašnih planin. Splača pa se po sestopu s planine ali pa tudi prej, pogledati tudi to dolino, ki je sicer tudi priljubljeno izhodišče za številne pohodne izlete, ima pa tudi sama kar nekaj zanimivih točk vrednih ogleda –slap Orglice, soteska Predaselj, izvir Kamniške Bistrice in še kaj.
Izvir Kamniške Bistrice
Dolina Kamniške Bistrice je priljubljeno izhodišče za pohodniške izlete, najbolj pa je znana tistim, ki želijo priti na najbolj enostaven način na Veliko planino, s pomočjo nihalke seveda. Dolina nudi veliko možnosti ogledov in je lep predlog družinskih potepanj.
Izhodišče za potepanje po dolini je običajno Dom v Kamniški Bistrici. Do tja pridemo v smeri Kamnika, Stahovice in sledimo oznakam za Veliko planino (nihalko) in peljemo še naprej. Cesta se pri domu zaključi in tu se nahaja parkirišče.
Tu si najprej ogledamo izvir reke Kamniške Bistrice. Na prvi pogled gre za manjše jezerce, če pa se boste podali v raziskovanje tega območja, boste naleteli na več izvirov vode izpod z mahom zaraščenih skal, ki tvorijo manjše brzice. Okrog jezerca oziroma območja izvira se lahko sprehodimo, na lastno odgovornost seveda.
V bližnjem planinskem domu se lahko okrepčamo, nudijo zelo veliko izbiro jedi, pa tudi prespimo.
V bližini se nahaja še Plečnikov dvorec, ki je bil postavljen po naročilu tedanjega kraljevega dvora, njegovo prvotno ime pa je bilo Lovska koča kralja Aleksandra. Načrte zanj je leta 1932 izdelal arhitekt Jože Plečnik, ki je s preprosto zunanjostjo in bogato notranjostjo dvorec želel vključiti v naravno okolje samega kraja. V bližini se nahaja še Lovska koča kneza Windischgraetza.
Od Doma v Kamniški Bistrici se lahko sprehodimo še do spominskega parka, kjer so zbrane spominske plošče vseh ponesrečencev v Kamniško-Savinjskih Alpah. Park je nastal v 70-ih letih prejšnjega stoletja na pobudo Planinskega društva Kamnik, ki je danes tudi skrbnik parka.
Soteska Predaselj
Od planinskega doma in parkirišča ob njem se lahko sprehodimo (ca. 20 min hoje) do globoke soteske Predaselj, ki jo je ustvarila ista reka malce nižje. Soteski Veliki in Mali Predaselj predstavljata najožji del struge Kamniške Bistrice, soteska Velikega je menda globoka 30 m, Malega pa 15 m in izjemno ozka. Nad obema so se v preteklosti nad strugo zagozdile skale in ustvarile naravna mostova. Ime Predoslje izhaja iz imena pred-roslo, kar pomeni sotesko oziroma naravni most preko soteske. Sprehod ob soteski odpre čudovit razgled na strugo reke ter kristalno čisto Kamniško Bistrico.
Želeli smo si ogledati še slap Orglice oziroma Orličje, a nas je žal pregnal dež. Sicer pa mora ostati tudi kaj za naslednjič.
V okolici vidimo več lepih primerov ledeniških balvanov.
Tod čista gorska reka
Kamniška Bistrica je 33 km dolga reka, ki izvira na treh koncih, najbolj znan pa je njen glavni izvir, v bližini Doma v Kamniški Bistrici. Drugi stalni izvir je Mali izvirek nekoliko niže od glavnega izvira, ostali izviri pa so bolj ali manj občasni in večkrat presahnejo. Njeno porečje meri 530 km2. V zgornjem toku je bistra in čista gorska reka.
Kamniška Bistrica spada med salmonidne vode, to so vodotoki s hitrim tokom in veliko vsebnostjo kisika, zato najdemo v njej potočno postrv in lipana, ki sta avtohtoni vrsti ter klena, ščuko, šarenko, potočno zlatovščico in druge ribe.
